Frequently asked questions
What is Business MegaBrands?
Business MegaBrands is an annual research index of India's leading business brands, published by WCRC (World Centre for Research and Consulting). The 2026–27 edition evaluates a locked cohort of 1,280 purely Indian business brands in 250 categories on WCRC's 50-parameter brand evaluation model, and names one Business MegaBrand in each category. Inclusion in the cohort and selection as a Business MegaBrand carry no fee.
What is a business brand?
A brand that earns most of its business from other businesses, institutions or government — or sells through trade and professional channels rather than straight to consumers. A cable maker, a port operator, a law firm and a CDMO are all business brands.
How many brands are in the 2026–27 cohort?
1,280 brands, in 250 categories, grouped into 107 industries and 21 sectors.
How are the 250 Business MegaBrands chosen?
Every brand in a category is evaluated on the same 50 parameters in five weighted pillars, using primary research (60%), secondary research (25%) and additional inputs (15%). Scores are compared within the category, and the brand with the strongest result is named the Business MegaBrand.
Does a company pay to be included or selected?
No. There is no fee for inclusion in the cohort, for evaluation or for being named a Business MegaBrand.
Is there an overall ranking?
No. Business MegaBrands names a leader in each category. A brand in cement is never compared with a brand in software.
Why are brands listed alphabetically?
Because the evaluation is not finished. Alphabetical order makes sure nothing on the site suggests a result before one exists.
Why are multinational companies not included?
Business MegaBrands is an index of Indian enterprise. Only Indian-owned, Indian-controlled companies are eligible. Indian subsidiaries of multinational groups are excluded however large their operations here.
Are public sector companies included?
Yes. Public sector undertakings are eligible on the same terms as private companies, and many are in the cohort.
Can a brand be added to the cohort during the year?
No. The cohort is locked for the edition so that every brand is compared against the same field. It is reviewed before the next edition.
What if a brand does not take part in the research?
It is still evaluated, on public evidence and market research, using the same model as every other brand.
How is Business MegaBrands different from the MegaBrands 501?
The MegaBrands 501 covers brands across consumer and business markets in 501 categories. Business MegaBrands looks only at business markets, with its own 250 categories and a larger set of business brands. 110 brands are in both.
When will the 2026–27 Business MegaBrands be announced?
In 2027, after evaluation (November 2026 to February 2027). The date will be published on the timeline page.
Can I use the data?
Yes. The full cohort can be downloaded as a CSV and used with attribution: "Source: WCRC, Business MegaBrands 2026–27."
